According to legend, Rabbi Chananiah was condemned to die on the stake by the Romans. When the Torah scroll in which he was wrapped caught fire, his disciples asked, "Rabbi, what do you see?" He responded," I see the Hebrew letters flying to the sky forming new prayers."
